Monday 19th April, 2021
Welcome back. I hope that everyone has had a safe and restful Easter break.
I am writing to inform you of a change to our school uniform that will be introduced from this September 2021.
This letter is to give you advance warning of this change and to ensure that if you are buying items of school uniform between now and the start of the new academic year that you are aware of the new requirements. The change is being introduced to ensure that we have a cost effective, smart uniform that is a representation of the high standards we uphold.
For quite a while now parents have been struggling to buy affordable royal blue jumpers or cardigans from supermarkets, etc and an increasing number have been asking for permission to wear navy blue instead.
Our recent academy conversion has provided an ideal opportunity for us to look to make this change in uniform. It has also generated a grant which we will use to purchase every child a new school jumper or cardigan for September – we hope to issue a voucher to every child which can be redeemed at ‘Just for Kids’.
There will be further communication over the coming weeks, but it is important that we keep you informed throughout the transition period. The change that we are making is to the colour of our jumpers and cardigans – we are moving from royal blue to navy blue.
We expect there to be a transition period of approximately 12 months for the royal blue jumpers and cardigans to be phased out completely and replaced by navy blue. The blue polo and tie will also be phased out during this period.
If, however, any families are struggling to complete the phasing out of the old jumpers/cardigans within this time frame, the school will have some additional funding to help.
Our school uniform is important. What a child wears to school reflects his/her learning. It also portrays the school’s ethos and shared positive values. We have a smart but simple uniform that we encourage all pupils to wear.
From September this is a navy blue sweatshirt or cardigan, a white polo shirt or white shirt and greytrousers or skirt. In summer, girls can wear a blue and white checked school dress. We hope that the new branded school uniform, including navy sweatshirts, navy fleeces, white polo shirts and PE t-shirts, can still be purchased from ‘Just For Kids’ on Washerwall Lane. Alternatively, unbranded uniform can be purchased at most supermarkets.
If any families need to replace any uniform that is already too small then they are welcome to buy/wear the new uniform immediately.
Children are asked to wear sensible black shoes – not trainers please.
I hope the advance notice of this new requirement will enable you to plan your uniform purchases for the new academic year. Thank you in advance for your co-operation in this matter and for your support for the standards we wish to uphold as a school.
